Cormack Packaging’s investment and commitment to design innovation remains with the Cormack Innovation Awards now running for more than 12 years.
Each year a new design brief is presented to Industrial Design Students to engage, teach and consider various packaging options and obstacles. For most students it is the first time they have worked with plastics and also considered that packaging may create career opportunities. We at Cormack, have been delighted to see how many former students from the program are now working in and around the packaging arena.
So what do we offer? Giving the students a framework to work within, together with our dedicated website offering information and links, students are given the opportunity to explore the boundaries of injection molding and packaging. Providing students with either in house factory tours or factory video presentations together with real samples and products, begins to develop their ideas and concepts. Finally, our experienced Technical staff offer students guidance and assistance on what refinements their concepts may require before submission. Year on year we are overwhelmed with the imagination and ability of what bright young minds bring to our competition.
Once received, the designs are marked internally and reduced to our Top 20 Finalists.
Each year, three of our customers are invited to be a part of our Judging Panel, scoring the Top 20 and deciding on the placegetters.
The entire program then culminates in our presentation night where students are recognised for their achievements. The winning entry then receives a paid Internship at Cormack Packaging together with a cash prize.
2013 saw the Australian Packaging Covenant join our program for the first time, offering their own “Sustainability Award” . We are very pleased to welcome the APC to our program and hope that this partnership continues.
The Australian Institute of Packaging have continued to partner our program for more than 5 years. The AIP will again offer one student the chance to win their AIP Scholarship, valued at $5,000.
What an amazing opportunity for both students, lecturers, our customers and the entire packaging industry.
